Solar energy at the gates of Berlin
The initial discussions with the landowner took place in spring 2021. An agreement was quickly reached to start the solar park project on the approximately 8-hectare agricultural land along the ICE route between Dallgow-Döberitz and nearby Berlin Spandau. The project was first presented to Mayor Sven Richter and the municipal building authority in August of the same year. Despite some opposition from factions within the municipal council, a very cooperative and effective collaboration with the lead municipality emerged. The parliamentary majority was ultimately convinced that the municipality would thereby make an important contribution to the energy transition and that no significant public or urban development concerns stood in the way of the project. In September 2021, the municipality approved the initiation of the development plan procedure with a resolution to prepare the plan. During this time, the very successful collaboration with the building and environmental planning office Petrick from Potsdam also began. In addition to the municipal participation anchored in Section 6 of the EEG, the municipality could rely on all commitments from SE AG. For example, Eichendorffstraße was renovated over a length of 500 m as part of the development, the operating company’s headquarters were relocated to the municipal area, and a large part of the cable route, as well as the transfer station, were placed on municipal plots of land.
Ultimately, in autumn 2024, a solar park covering 5.7 ha with a capacity of 5.8 MW was commissioned, along with a multi-row bird hedge and an ecologically valuable wildflower meadow established on and next to the solar park site, which are maintained by sheep.
